Sikich is a Chicago-based accounting, technology and advisory firm. In December 2024 it launched a virtual chief AI officer (vCAIO) service as an extension of its virtual CIO and virtual CISO offerings1.

Best for: Organisations that already buy virtual executive services, especially in life sciences, insurance and professional services, and companies rolling out Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Not the right fit for: Buyers who want a published time commitment or fee before the first meeting.

What the Sikich vCAIO does

According to Accounting Today's report of the launch, the service provides executive-level AI guidance without the cost of a full-time hire. It covers AI strategy tied to business goals, including high-impact use cases and implementation plans; recommendations on tools, platforms and vendors, including build-versus-buy; help meeting ethical, regulatory and organisational standards, including data privacy and model fairness; coordination between IT, data and business teams; ongoing review of the strategy; and an add-on to support Microsoft 365 Copilot deployment1.

Ray Beste, a principal AI strategist, leads the service line and was reported as the primary resource for clients, drawing on the firm's in-house AI experts as needed. Early interest came mainly from life sciences, insurance and professional services.

On its own site, Sikich places the vCAIO inside its AI Solutions Studio, part of a data and AI practice that also covers data strategy, governance, analytics and architecture2.

Published evidence

The pages we read name no vCAIO clients and report no results for the service.

  • How is the vCAIO priced compared with your vCIO and vCISO services?
  • How much of the implementation can the AI Solutions Studio take on, and is it limited to Microsoft products?
  • How do you hand the role over if we later hire a full-time AI leader?
